Gracewing Publishing is proud to announce that it has been appointed Distributor for Ignatius Press.

The Ignatius Press Spring 2010 New Titles and backlist titles are in stock now.

In preparation for the visit of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI to England and Scotland, and the Beatification of Cardinal Newman in September, Gracewing have four new titles:

Blessed John Henry Newman - A Richly Illustrated Portrait has been compiled from their archive collection by Kathleen Dietz FSO and Mary-Birgitt Dechant FSO, two of the Sisters of The Work who care for The College (the site of the original community set up by Newman at Littlemore). In full colour, this book will be the ideal companion for this year's Newman celebrations.

Newman the Priest - A Father of Souls by Fr Gerard Skinner lets Newman speak to us in his own words, drawing on the tens of thousands of pages that this great pastor penned. As Pope Benedict hinself has said 'much attention has rightly been given to Newman's great scholarship and to his extensive writings, but it is important to remember that he saw himself first and foremost as a priest.'

John Henry Newman - A Very English Saint by Peter Chisnall provides a popular introduction and a work of synthesis to Newman scholarship for the non-specialist. As the sanctity of Newman finally receives recognition by the Church, there is ever more interest in this very English of priests.

Two Essays on Miracles is appropriately the latest volume (Volume VIII) published in the Birmingham Oratory Millennium Edition of the Works of Cardinal John Henry Newman. Edited and introduced by Bishop Geoffrey Rowell, it provides a fascinating insight into the development of Newman's thinking.

To celebrate the life and teaching of Pope Benedict XVI we have in stock a wide range of his own writings as well as a variety of books exploring the riches of his thought.

Benedict XVI:Autobiographical Notes provides a brief biography in full colour, drawing on what Pope Benedict has himself said and written about his own life, and at only 50p offers the perfect introduction to the man and his ministry.

Heart of the Christian Life: Thoughts on the Holy Mass is the latest volume published by Ignatius Press, bringing together the core teaching of the Holy Father on different aspects of the Faith. It joins the many other titles stocked by Gracewing, published by Ignatius Press, Our Sunday Visitor and Gracewing itself, that will enrich our participation in and appreciation of the forthcoming Papal Visit.

The Big Silence

In a new three-part series Abbot Christopher Jamison investigates the peace and silence which is so central to the Catholic mystical tradition. The focus is on helping to find space for silence at work and home – five people attempt to put silence at the heart of their everyday, busy lives.

An invitation to us all to step outside time, and join ourselves to the silence that lies at the heart of the world. Through silence to enter into prayer.

Inspired by the Carthusian tradition of silent prayer, John Skinner has been working for several years on developing ways to offer this intense experience to those who today are seeking to engage with their own inner reality and with a deeper experience of God.

John Skinner offers simple models of praying that are inviting and safe. Anyone can pray: no prayer is the same. There are no techniques, rules or strictures – an infinitely adaptable way of praying, based on a simple half hour of silence. Based on material used each month by a wide network of people engaged with silent prayer, these books provide weekly readings threaded together to give a year-long exploration of silence.

Being Still Jean-Yves Leloup

Reflections on an Ancient Mystical Tradition

For more that fifteen hundred years Christianity has cultivated a rich and varied teaching on the practice of stillness and inner calm. Here we can find answers to the contemporary psychological struggle for inner peace.

In a fresh and engaging reading of this ancient contemplative path, Jean-Yves Leloup explores the writings of many spiritual masters from across centuries, in particular the Desert Fathers, the fourth century monk Evagrius, and St John Cassian. Drawn from the experience of the monasteries of Sinai and Mount Athos, here is a clear and practical presentation of the spiritual art of arts: stillness in the face of interior pain and confusion.

Hear our Silence John Skinner

A Journey into Prayer

A portrait of the Carthusians – John Skinner challenges the noisome babble of our chaotic culture. Is it time for us to turn and seek the cloister of our inner world? How is it possible? What would be the rewards? What stops us seeking such rest and peace in the midst of our troubled world?

The Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius of Loyola

Translated by Michael Ivens, SJ

First published in 1548, the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius of Loyola have been a seminal influence in Christian spirituality over the succeeding centuries.

Their fruits can be seen in the almost incredible achievement of generation after generation of Jesuit missionaries, preachers and teachers working in many different cultures across the inhabited world, all of whom had received their formation through the Spiritual Exercises.

Today the Spiritual Exercises and the tradition of spirituality that they present are perhaps more popular than ever. This classic text of the sixteenth century still has a part to play.

Understanding the Spiritual Exercises Michael Ivens, SJ

Michael Ivens has drawn both on the wealth of published material and on the wisdom of his own long experience to produce a commentary that attempts to unravel the inner workings of the Spiritual Exercises. He presents a new translation, as faithful, as possible to the original, while commenting in detail on words or phases that call for elucidation.
